Newburyport, MA is a dog friendly town that we frequently visit. Just like all tourists, our dogs enjoy spending the day sightseeing, shopping, and of course fine dining, all of which Newburyport offers with a dog friendly flare. On a recent visit we spent the morning enjoying the cool breezes along the waterfront. The Harbor Walk and adjoining park is a great place to stretch your legs while enjoying a little dog watching. We also spent some time shopping, including Chuck Billy and Asa’s favorite store, Pawsitively Best Friends, located in the heart of Newburyport. The dogs then dined alfresco in Market Square, enjoying special treats that a nice gentleman we just met purchased for them. That’s what we love about Newburyport. We always meet the friendliest dog people there. We’ve made so many new friends on our visits.
Newburyport is also a fun town to visit because it always seem to have events each time we’re there. Whether it is the Spring Festival, Yankee Homecoming Parade, or the Riverfront Music Festival, there is always something entertaining happening. In addition to these events the historic neighborhoods are a great place to walk your dogs, especially if you are interested in architecture. Along the old streets you can find beautiful examples of everything from period Colonials, to the grand Federal style homes of ship captains, to the painted ladies of the Victorian era.
Downtown Newburyport is one of our top choices as a great place to go with your dog. The dog friendly culture of the people and businesses along with all the interesting places to explore make it an enjoyable experience time and time again.
