While Chuck Billy and Asa anticipate finding extra treats in their bowl this Thanksgiving, not all dogs are so fortunate. With the record breaking cold temperatures and early snowfall, this is shaping up to be an expensive winter making some families have to choose between paying bills and buying pet food. In Maine, pet families are fortune to have No Bowl Empty Pet Food Pantry to turn to for help.
Founded in 2015, Nadine Molloy has gone above and beyond to help her clients’ dogs and cats get the food and supplies they need to keep their fur families together. As Nadine explained to me in a 2016 interview, while operating a rescue for cats she found that many families “were surrendering their much loved pet because they were experiencing financial difficulties and could not afford to feed them. Many elderly were faced with choosing between their prescription medications and food for their pet. Surrendering a beloved pet is very hard on both the humans and the pets. Many pets, especially cats over age 5, do not do well physically or emotionally when surrendered. They do not understand, they get depressed, stop eating and drinking, get sick or die as a result of a broken heart.” Nadine knew there had to be a way she could do something to keep pets and families together. That’s when she closed her rescue, cleared out her garage, raided her savings account, and stocked her shelves with dog food, cat food, and kitty litter. A couple of relocations, and many hurdles later, thanks to Nadine’s awe inspiring selflessness, No Bowl Empty Pet Food Pantry is even bigger and better, helping Maine families in need.
However, she can’t do it alone, and needs your help! This Holiday Season there are many ways in which you can lend a helping paw to No Bowl Empty Pet Food Pantry. From now through December 22, 2018, Morong Falmouth Volkswagen will be hosting their annual “Stuff the VW Woof Wagon,” to benefit No Bowl Empty Pet Food Pantry. Donations of pet food and cat litter can be dropped off at their showroom on Route 1 in Falmouth, Maine. Another way you can donate is this Sunday, November 25, 2018 at the Windham Blue Seal Feeds (43 Main Street Windham, ME). From 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM they will be accepting donations.
