One Dog, Two Breakfasts, Big Disappointment

It all happened so quickly. I could barely believe my eye. It was everything Angel Chuck Billy dreamed about. What any dog dreams about really. Yet as soon as I comprehended what was happening, it was stopped! I was almost served not just two breakfasts, but two breakfasts at the same time!

This morning began like any other. I woke Mom up. We went outside to greet the day. Then Mom headed to the basement to get my food. Nothing unusual there. I patiently waited at the kitchen counter as she finished preparing it. Meanwhile Dad woke up earlier than usual, and headed to the basement with Angel Chuck Billy’s old bowl. We keep it on top of his crate as a place of honor. Anyways, neither Mom nor I paid attention to what he was up to, and clearly Dad wasn’t paying attention to us.

As Mom was loading my pills into fresh raspberries, Dad started to soak my kibble in Angel Chuck Billy’s bowl. Instantly both Mom and I realized what he was up to! But before I could stop her, Mom’s reflexes were faster than mine! She knocked Dad’s hand away from the faucet! She may or may not have also yelled, “NO!” Things really do happen in slow motion when in a crisis, so I can’t recall if she said anything or not. I do know Dad exclaimed, “What was that for?” I agreed! What was that for?! Mom pointed to my bowl of kibble already soaking on the counter.

Instantly Dad realized his mistake. Now time was of the essence. Would he give me the food, or try to rescue the kibble the water hadn’t touched yet? I held my breath in anticipation. Without hesitation, he began scooping out the dry kibble while separating it from the moist pieces on a paper towel. DAD! I will happily eat it all! No need to go to through such a hassle.

Still not fully comprehending the gravity of the situation, I made a big mistake. Rather than doing a happy dance, I should have been more vocal with stating the obvious solution. Either way, it probably didn’t matter. Dad and Mom were too focused on how much kibble did the water splash on, that they ignored me and the obvious solution of serving both meals. Sadly within minutes, it was all over. A few additional pieces of soggy kibble were added to my original bowl, while the rest was set aside for tonight’s dinner.

So close and yet so far from achieving all dogs’ ultimate breakfast dream! Sure on rare occasions they’ve accidentally both fed me breakfast at different times. But this would have been a first to get two breakfasts at the same time!
