Our Return to Goat Hill, in Acton Maine

Two years ago in 2021, we visited Goat Hill Trail in Acton, Maine when it was still a work in progress. On June 3, 2023 they celebrated the official opening of this ADA accessible trail! Maintained by the Three Rivers Land Trust, this approximately half-mile, 5 to 7 feet wide, gravel, switchback trail is a universally-accessible path to the summit. There you will see beautiful 360-degree views of fields, forests, lakes, and the Presidential Range, including Mt. Washington. Also at the summit, you will find picnic tables overlooking Romac Orchard, making it the perfect place to spend the afternoon.

Dogs are allowed on-leash at Goat Hill Trail. As always pet waste must be picked up and carried out. You can find the dirt parking lot at the trailhead on 1205 H Road, in Acton, Maine. To learn more about this US Forest Service ADA compliant trail, please visit 3rlt.org.

On the August day that we visited, we followed the gentle slope of the trail…

…to reach the summit.

There we settled in for a picnic…

…and enjoyed the mountain views.

Goat Hill Trail in Acton, Maine is a beautiful place to spend the afternoon. For additional places to explore this autumn, visit our Dog Friendly Places reviews.
