Patiently Waiting for My Invitation

I have to admit I was a little disappointed when Bon Jovi announced they were re-releasing their album “Forever,” with famous musicians collaborating on the songs. Why wasn’t I asked to participate? Oh sure, I’ve been known to parody the lyrics to a few of their songs. But if given the chance to perform with Jon, I promise I’d bark every word as written!

Yet no invitation came. I mean Jon asked Bruce Springsteen to sing along. Why not me? I even know which song I’d choose! Sorry Ryan Tedder of OneRepublic, I know you did a great job on “Seeds,” but I’d have requested that song to perform. After the year I’ve had, the words really speak to me, especially,

“You don’t have to fix what is broken
You only get better at copin’
The road don’t always know where it’s goin’
We keep rollin’, rollin’, rollin’…”

I sure didn’t know where this road is going to lead me, especially after losing Chuck Billy and facing all of my health scares, but I did keep rolling! And just like Jon said, the cracks are where the light comes in to keep growing!

“Be happy for the tears that you’re cryin’
The cracks are where we let all the light in
Put yourself out there in the open
Just keep growin’, an’ growin’, an’ growin’…”

Oh, but Jon knows the lyrics to this song. He doesn’t need me to explain them to him. This isn’t the only one from the album that holds deep meaning for me, many others do too. Oh how happy we were when Bon Jovi released the single “Legendary” in March of 2024! Angel Chuck Billy was still with us then, and it was he who uncharacteristically danced along with Mom in the living room when we listened for the first time.

“Got what I want ’cause I got what I need
Got a fistful of friends that’ll stand up for me
Right where I am is where I wanna be…”

But I’m sure James Bay did a secret happy dance when he got the invitation to perform with Jon on this song. In fact, I bet everyone Jon invited to participate was super excited, and I’m happy for them! This re-release of the album rocks!

Besides, on Wednesday I found out why Jon Bon Jovi didn’t invite me to collaborate on “Forever (Legendary Edition).” He announced the band is going on tour!!! Oh sure the locations of New York, Edinburg, Dublin, and London aren’t exactly convenient for me. But I’m positive that any day now his people will call my people, or actually my llama, and they’ll work out the logistics. I’ll start rehearsing, while I patiently wait for my invitation.

Alright, I admit this is an old publicity photo. I didn’t want to worry Jon with my surgery haircut. I’m sure it will all grow back in time for the July tour dates.
