On Saturday, April 15, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland will be hosting a Pet CPR and First Aid Workshop. A year ago, we took this hands-on workshop taught by April Begosh of Healthy Pets NH, and cannot stress enough how much we learned during that 5 hour class. The workshop moves quickly and a lot of valuable information is presented in an easy to understand approach through lecture, demonstrations and hands-on practice. April also gears the class to fit the needs of the participants and their specific questions. Although this is a serious subject, April’s approach is at times lighthearted, and does involve a cat joke or two.
The Pet CPR and First Aid Workshop provides information on basic emergency and first aid care for pets prior to veterinary care, including what to do if your pet is choking or not breathing, how to safely mobilize for transport an animal with a broken leg, and restraining and muzzling an injured pet. It also addresses summer concerns of what to do if your dog is overheated or has a reaction to a bug bite. For a complete list of topics to be covered, please visit Healthy Pets NH.
The cost is $65 and each class participant receives a workbook filled with valuable information in the event of an emergency, two certifications (valid for two years) and an emergency muzzle. The class will take place at the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland (217 Landing Road, Westbrook, ME). For more information on this lifesaving class and to register, visit Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland, or contact ARLGP event coordinator, Sara Levesque, at slevesque@arlgp.org or (207) 517-3936.
Please do not bring your dog to class, stuffed practice dogs will be used for training purposes.
