Today is Nature Photography Day! To celebrate we are sharing some of the dog friendly places that we visited that are as pretty as a picture. If you’d like to get out there and photograph these places too, click on the highlighted name for more information.
Bradbury Mountain State Park, Pownal, ME: Bradbury Mountain State Park in Pownal, Maine is an easy to moderate dog friendly hike with spectacular views. With over 21 miles of trails, Bradbury Mountain offers hikers a variety of options, ranging from a wide gradual ascent to the summit, to more challenging trails with some steep descents over rock ledges and rock staircases. At the summit there are views of Casco Bay and the skyline of Portland.
Goat Hill Trail, Acton, ME: If you’re looking for an easy hike, with spectacular views, well search no further! We recommend Goat Hill Trail in Acton, Maine. Maintained by the Three Rivers Land Trust, Goat Hill is one of the highest elevations in Acton, and offers stunning 360-degree views of nearby lakes, and the Presidential Range, including Mt. Washington.
Stonehouse Forest in Barrington, NH: Stonehouse has a network of 11.3 miles of trails that go through forest, wetlands, vernal pools, to a pond, and a 150 foot high granite cliff with amazing views. On the day we visited, we hiked the short but easy Ledges Loop Trail which connects to the Overlook Trail for beautiful views of the pond below.
Mt Kearsarge, Warner, NH: Mt. Kearsarge located in Warner and Wilton, New Hampshire, is accessible by two state parks, on the day we visited we accessed it by way of Rollins State Park in Warner, NH. There you will find a half mile hiking trail of 300 vertical feet with scenic overlooks along the way to the summit. The Rollins Trail is a moderate to difficult hike, but worth the effort for the beautiful summit views of Mt. Monadnock to the hills of New Hampshire’s coastal plain. The summits of Pack Monadnock, and Uncanoonuc Mountains, the hills of central Massachusetts, and the Boston skyline are all visible on the horizon on clear days, and nearby Mink Hills and Merrimack River Valley can also be seen.
