Porcupine, Moose & Bear – Oh My!

Summer is officially here as evident in the tourists seen around our neighborhood.  It all started with a porcupine taking up residence in our brush pile.  Ok, I admit I’m a little upset that Dad said I’m no longer allowed to add sticks to the pile, so as not to disturb Mr. Porcupine’s summer sojourn.  He’s not the only tourist.  Odie told me he saw a Moose in his backyard.  Now at first I was skeptical.  After all Odie is getting up there in years, and his eyesight may not be quite what it use to be.  But his brother Trouble confirmed the sighting.  Apparently Ms. Moose is visiting from out of town to do a little genealogical research.  You see many years ago her ancestor passed away in our woods.  Lemmy found the remains one very cold and snowy winter.  I offered to show her the final resting place, but Mom said Ms. Moose probably preferred to go without me.  There’s also a Bear vacationing here.  He comes around every year and raves over our delicious wild blue berries.  The unofficial motto of Maine is “Vacationland,” so we welcome them all.  Besides, after the isolating winter we had, it is nice to see folks getting out and enjoying all that Maine has to offer.  Now if you excuse me, I believe the Canadian Geese have arrived.  I better go welcome them before Asa insults them with his overenthusiastic barking!  This is after all his first tourist season.
