Roque Bluffs State Park, Maine

It was too hot for us to go on an adventure this weekend. Instead, please join us as we daydream about our 2016 visit to Roque Bluffs State Park. Located on Schoppee Point in Roque Bluffs, Maine, this park offers over 6 miles of dog friendly hiking through diverse terrain. Consisting of 274 acres, the trails loop their way through old apple orchards, meadows, and dense forest along rocky shores with beautiful views of Great Cove and Pond Cove.  The three main trails – Houghton’s Hill Trail, Mihill Trail, and Pond Cove Trail, are connected by a network of smaller paths giving hikers a variety of options for easy to moderate hiking, making it a great place to explore over and over again with your dog.

Dogs must be kept on a leash, no longer than 4 feet.  Please note dogs are not allowed on the ocean beach on Englishman Bay, but can enjoy Simpson Pond as long as they are leashed.  In addition to the well marked trails, there are picnic areas along the trail at scenic overlooks, playground facilities, and a large parking lot.  Tranquil compared to other Maine State Parks, Roque Bluffs is located at 145 Schoppee Point Road, and is open 9:00 AM to sunset from May 15 through October 30, and during the off-season visitors may continue to enjoy the trails by parking outside the gated parking lot. There is a nominal entrance fee.
