Santa, Is that You?

My life is going to the gutters with a moral decision. Do I tell Asa the truth, or should I let the happy little fellow believe Santa and his helpers came to inspect the roof?

It all started when Dad decided to give Mom yet another romantic Christmas gift. Something that all women dream of for the Holidays – new rain gutters for the house! Now it being such a special gift, he thought it would be best if they were installed before Christmas. Therefore the crew came out recently to do it. Asa, who is on Christmas overload, immediately assumed the crew was Santa and his elves.

I must admit he was very cute the way Asa would run from window to window to watch as they climbed the ladders. It was even funnier when as they ascended the ladders and disappear out of sight Asa would stare at the ceiling wondering where they went. Then he would run to the door, hoping Mom would let him out to help. Then run back to the window to watch for them coming down the ladder.

I’m not sure who was having more fun actually. Because the workers couldn’t resist playing peek-a-boo with Asa, popping their heads into view at the silliest of angles while saying, “puppy! puppy! puppy!” For a cold and damp day they certainly had really big smiles on their faces as they worked, which probably added to Asa’s belief that they were inspecting the roof for Santa’s sleigh.

I suppose there’s no harm in keeping the truth from Asa, and letting him believe in the magic of Christmas.
