This past weekend we had the prefect conditions for a dog friendly winter hike: fresh packed snow, no ice, and temperatures hovering between the mid-40s to 50s. But did we go out and enjoy all that a Maine winter wonderland has to offer? Nope! And it’s all Asa’s fault! My little brother is on forced light duty until his back leg feels better. How could he be so selfish? Asa decided to sideline us by slipping on the wet garage floor. He came bounding in after playing, and zigged when he should have zagged, twisting in the oddest of ways, and came to a sickening thump against Mom’s car, while screeching a surprised yelp. Don’t worry, Mom’s car is ok! How could Asa make such a rookie mistake? Everyone knows you should zag and not zig! Anyways, afterwards he was walking very stiffly. So to play it safe, Mom and Dad are making him stay on the sidelines for awhile to rest. But what about ME!
I tried to convince Mom and Dad that we could leave him home alone while we went on a winter hike. After all I had it all planned where we’d go and everything! However, they reminded me as pack leader it wasn’t nice to leave a member behind. So there we have it folks. I’m stuck at home watching Mom and Dad cater to Asa’s every need, while I’m horribly neglected. Would you believe Dad has even been carrying him upstairs? And don’t get me started on how I have to do neighborhood patrol all by myself. Stop puppying him! I WANT MY HIKE!
Asa’s Response: Gee Chuck Billy, your concern for my wellbeing is truly touching. Rather than worry about me, why don’t you suggest to our loyal readers to check out one of these great Maine Winter Hikes for Dogs that we reviewed, so they can at least have fun? We’ve added a lot of places to it since we first posted it in December. Oh and to my grandmothers who may be reading this, I’m feeling much better. Mom and Dad are just being overly cautious as usual.
