Smiling Down on Us

This morning Mom and I woke up in the predawn hours on an important mission. We were being sent a message from a dear friend, that was time sensitive. It wasn’t an email that could wait in an inbox. Nor was it a text that alerted us upon arrival. In fact it traveled farther to reach us than any message we’ve ever received. This message came from space! And what was the message? A happy smiley face!

The smiley face was created by Venus, Saturn and the crescent Moon, in a triangle formation. In astronomy they call this event a “triple conjunction.” You can read all about the technical information at Space.com. While planetary alignments happen regularly, the specific alignment of Venus, Saturn, and the crescent Moon to form a smiley face is considered rare. That’s how we know this wasn’t just any old message from space. It was an important message sent from Mom’s friend!

Today marks the 5th anniversary of when Mom’s childhood best friend passed away. Auntie Danielle has sent us many undeniable signs over the past 5 years. So yesterday when we heard that this celestial event was happening on this sad anniversary, we knew instantly it was a message from her to make us smile. After all, their friendship began pre-emojis, and she would sign her notes to Mom, often passed in class when they should have been paying attention, with a smiley face. It was no doubt her way of reassuring us that Angel Chuck Billy arrived safely and is by her side. In fact, while gazing up into the night sky, we saw not one but two shooting stars! Proof that she is taking good care of not just Chuck Billy, but Lemmy too, and they are no doubt playing lots of fetch together.

However, as with most celestial events lately, Mother Nature didn’t fully cooperate with the weather. There was a thin layer of clouds, making it difficult to see both planets. So it was kind of like a slow wink as the clouds drifted, then the Moon entirely disappeared. Therefore here is my artistic interpretation of this important message. Sorry I’m blurry. Mom wasn’t fully awake when she snapped the photo of me looking for this celestial smiley face.

Thank you Auntie Danielle! Message received! Now go back to playing fetch with Angels Chuck Billy and Lemmy. See you at the end of the trail…
