Support Hope for a Healthier Future on National Dog Day

We’ve lost far too many dog friends to cancer and other illnesses. Together on National Dog Day, we can take steps towards helping future pets to live longer, healthier lives by supporting the Morris Animal Foundation! Since 1950, the Morris Animal Foundation has invested over $55 million in more than 1,160 canine health studies. They’ve contributed to early research that contributed to the parvovirus vaccine and development of genetic tests for heart diseases, eye diseases and seizure disorders. They also are at the forefront of funding cancer studies in dogs, including hemangiosarcoma, lymphoma and osteosarcoma, with their Golden Retriever Lifetime Study.

Now in its twelfth year, the Morris Animal Foundation’s Golden Retriever Lifetime Study (GRLS) is the largest and most comprehensive prospective canine health study ever undertaken in veterinary medicine in the United States. Its purpose is to identify the nutritional, environmental, lifestyle and genetic risk factors for cancer and other diseases in all dogs. Each year, with the help of veterinarians and dog owners, the Morris Animal Foundation collects health, environmental and behavioral data on Golden Retriever “Heroes.” From “tip to tail” the information gained from these Heroes are being used by scientists to study everything from canine influenza, epilepsy, osteoarthritis, hemangiosarcoma, canine cognitive dysfunction, progressive retinal atrophy, and tick borne diseases, just to name a few of the many areas being investigated. But they can’t do it alone! They need your help!

In celebration of National Dog Day, a generous, anonymous donor is matching your gifts through August 31, 2024, up to a total of $75,000. So honor the dogs you’ve lost, and celebrate the dogs who bring joy to your life each day, by supporting the science to give them longer, healthier lives! Your gift will go twice as far to improve the health of dogs. What are you waiting for? Donate today to the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study!
