Grab your leashes and head to the 23rd Annual Tails to Trails Walk to benefit the Cocheco Valley Humane Society! The event takes place this Sunday, June 11, 2017 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on the lawn of the Strafford County Courthouse (259 County Farm Road, Dover, NH). In addition to the fundraiser walk, there will be entertainment including a magician, face painting and demonstrations from the Rochester Police K9! There will also be a variety of pet related vendors and local businesses, as well as delicious food! Dogs are also welcome to try their paw on the agility course or show off their disc catching skills!
Led by CVHS staff with adoptable shelter dogs, the Pledge Walk for the animals kicks off at 12:30 PM, and follows a 1-mile path through the woods near the shelter along the Cocheco River. Participants can walk with or without their own dogs and a shorter walk path is available for those looking for less of a challenge.
Immediately following the walk is the very entertaining Canine Capers at 1:00 PM, where dogs can compete for best kisser, best costume, and musical sit. Prizes will be awarded for first, second, and third place in all three contests. Register your dog for one contest or take part in all three! Winners will be selected by a panel of guest judges.
Registration for the fundraiser walk is $25 for adults and $15 for children under 12 years old. Walkers are encouraged to pre-register, but day of registrations are always welcomed. Prizes are available at the different pledge levels starting at $25! If you are unable to attend the walk but want to support the shelter or if you don’t want to walk you can still make a direct donation to Tails to Trails or create your own fundraising page. All proceeds from this fun event will benefit the animals of the Cocheco Valley Humane Society.
The Cocheco Valley Humane Society (CVHS) is dedicated to promoting the humane treatment of animals in Strafford County, NH and Southern Maine. They are the temporary home for more than 1,500 surrendered, lost, abused, neglected, or unwanted animals each year. More than just an animal shelter, CVHS is also a community resource for Strafford County and surrounding areas. Much of their work is providing programs and services that benefit animals and their humans including pet food assistance, humane education programs, and Safe Pets. Safe Pets provides a temporary safety net for pets when their owners find themselves in a time of transition. Victims of domestic violence, those who must be hospitalized for an extended time, and even service people being sent overseas can call on CVHS to provide temporary care.
