Thanks for Noticing Me, Mr. Bot

Grandma is always saying, “it’s a strange new world.”  I think she may be right, especially when it comes to social media.  The other day my post on searching for Dad’s earbuds got retweeted by someone who “tweets everything gadgets, electronics and technology.”  This confused me at first.  Why would my blog about Asa selfishly rolling on Dad’s earbuds be worthy of a retweet by them?  Then I realized, it was retweeted by a bot!  Apparently because I used the word “earbuds,” the analytics for that site found my post and automatically retweeted it.  It makes me laugh to think that a robot is “reading” my blog.

Asa reminded me this isn’t the first time this happened.  Once when I tweeted about Golden Retrievers being solar powered, I suddenly had three solar panel companies following me.  That didn’t last long.  Within a day or so the bots realized that as Golden Retrievers we probably wouldn’t buy solar panels, and unfollowed us.  But this most recent incident got me thinking.  I wonder what other robots are reading my posts?

If I write about drones will one suddenly start virtually following me on social media?  That could be fun, especially since Mom won’t let me buy an actual drone.  Oh!  What if I write about food?  I like food!  It would be nice to have food friends.  Although Asa also reminded me that food bots can be passive aggressive.  Like the time I posted on Facebook criticizing Mom for her healthy salad, and suddenly ads for healthy eating were popping up everywhere on my newsfeed.  Point taken, I will eat my veggies.

So if you’re a bot “reading” my blog, thanks for noticing me!  And if you’re a human, a fellow dog, or even a cat, here’s a bigger THANK YOU for taking the time to check-in during your busy day and read about my adventures.  Happy Weekend!

It’s a strange new world.
