You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, but do you recall that time Asa met a reindeer on Christmas Eve? I didn’t but Asa’s decision to take his reindeer squeaky friend on a walk yesterday reminded me. And of course that in turn reminded Asa of the song he wrote for the special playdate. He always felt the reindeer got a bad reputation in the original version of “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer,” so wrote a new holiday classic to that tune. The following is Asa’s retelling of that magical playdate with one of Santa’s reindeer in 2019.
Asa had a playdate with a reindeer
On the way to a hike Christmas Eve
You can say there’s no such thing as reindeer
But as for me and Chuck Billy, we believe
We were driving to go hiking
And we begged Dad not to stop
But Mom needed one more Christmas gift
And she made Dad stop at the local outlet mall
That’s when Asa spied his new friends
At the entrance to the store
They had antlers and jingle bells
And Asa wandered over to look some more
Asa had a playdate with a reindeer
On the way to a hike Christmas Eve
You can say there’s no such thing as reindeer
But as for me and Chuck Billy, we believe
Now we’re all so proud of Asa
He just leaned in for a sniff
He just stood there in amazement
Wondering if Santa was shopping in there too
It’s not Asa without bad jokes
All the family is in shock
And we just can’t help but wonder
If it’s a Christmas miracle,
Probably not!
Asa had a playdate with a reindeer
On the way to a hike Christmas Eve
You can say there’s no such thing as reindeer
But as for me and Chuck Billy, we believe
Now Mom finished with her shopping
And the gifts were in the car
And it was time to go hiking
The reason why we were out on Christmas Eve
I warned Asa time to go
Better wave goodbye to your friends
They will soon be off working
Pulling Santa in his sleigh
Bringing our gifts
Asa had a playdate with a reindeer
On the way to a hike Christmas Eve
You can say there’s no such thing as reindeer
But as for me and Chuck Billy, we believe!
