That Time I Won the Supper Bowl

Many dogs have their own special Super Bowl memory. Whether it is their favorite team winning, an ad that made them bark out loud, or scoring that delicious snack when the humans were distracted by the game. For me, my favorite memory is the time I won the Supper Bowl during Super Bowl LV 2021.

I Won the Supper Bowl (February 8, 2021)

The Buccaneers may have won the Super Bowl last night. But I’m the big winner of the Supper Bowl! There was a palpable excitement in the air during dinner time. I’m not sure if it was because Asa and I worked up an appetite playing in the freshly falling snow, cheering on Team Ruff in the Puppy Bowl, or if smelling chili cooking in the crockpot all day made us extra hungry. Either way, when Mom put our supper bowls down, it was definitely game time!

I immediately charged into action and wolfed down my food. My slow feeder bowl was defenseless against my rushing skills. I was hungry to score a full belly touchdown! Now normally after I eat, Dad referees by putting me on the sidelines in my crate to protect Asa’s pocket when he’s eating. However, last night I played it cool by sauntering into the living room to sit with Dad, while keeping an eye on my opponent’s bowl. Well my innate understanding of the nuances of the game, combined with my keen eye and explosive running skills sure paid off last night!

As Asa approached his dinner with the cautiousness of a rookie going over the plays in his head for his first big game, he slowly ate his meal. When all of a sudden, he fumbled! I’m not sure how he did it, but Asa’s supper bowl went hurdling through the air, with kibble falling everywhere!

I immediately recognized that the pocket was breaking down. I rushed in to get there by cutting through the outside edge and then straight down the center to intercept the kibble. Meanwhile, Asa made the mental mistake of staring in bewilderment at my unstoppable speed, while failing to protect the pocket. In fact, the more Mom tried to help screen the kibble for Asa, the more the two of them opened it up for me to surge forward into the end zone to score my touchdown!

Did Mom not put the bowl properly into the stand? Did Asa’s collar somehow get caught on the bowl? Or maybe, just maybe, I made the bowl levitate with my mind by concentrating on how much I wanted to taste victory! Either way, I was running at a very efficient level, and gained unprecedented access to the kibble, earning myself the title of MVP in this historic match up. Oh sure, my sticky coverage earned me a penalty from referee Dad, as Asa’s frustrations boiled over. But it’s not my fault Asa forgot the key rule of the Supper Bowl – defense, defense defense!

We may never know what caused Asa to fumble his dinner and make it fly through the air and land all over the floor. However, I do know that I WON last night’s Supper Bowl thanks to his soft spots in defense, combined with my superior instincts and skillset.

Asa, do you have any thoughts on the game? “I’d like to congratulate my opponent on the longest touchdown drive in Supper Bowl history. Chuck Billy is indeed unstoppable, especially when he sees an opening. I just wish I called a time out instead of letting the kibble run down to zero.”

I forgot rule #1 in the Supper Bowl: Always protect the kibble.

However, in case you’re wondering, Asa scored too by getting a second dinner. Because in the Supper Bowl, we’re all winners!
