Well I learned an important lesson on my vacation. Always ask if it is a shared rental and research the location. Turns out our rental cottage was a popular bird destination!
It didn’t take long after our arrival for Asa and I to notice the previous guests were still lingering on the lawn.
I politely barked in case they lost track of time and forgot to check out. Instead would you believe these Canadian tourists just ignored me!
Perhaps they couldn’t hear me over the squawking coming from the pier party taking place just a few yards away.
Now as you know, Asa can’t resist a party, and really wanted to join them.
But the bouncers for that pier party looked rather intimidating, so I said it was best to sit this one out.
That first evening I did get hopeful that the geese were finally flying south for their favorite snowbird destination.
However, the next morning I awoke to find they invited even more friends and family to stay at my vacation rental!
So Asa and I resigned ourselves that this was a shared rental property, and that we would coexist with our feathered friends. At least on the bright side they stayed to one area and didn’t defile our fetch playing field. Because trust me, these geese don’t lay Golden eggs!
Those weren’t the only birds on the property. Mr. and Mrs. Heron were enjoying a romantic getaway on the far end of our beach.
Also this happy soul on a personal retreat could be seen hopping along every morning beachcombing with us.
Not everyone was happy though. I can’t believe how closely the property manager watched our every move!
There was also the nosey neighbor who insisted on circling overhead every day. Hey buddy! Ever hear “this land is your land, this land is my land, this land was made for YOU and ME”?!
However, despite this being a popular tourist destination and not the private property that I assumed it would be, I do admit Asa and I had a great time. Because after all, isn’t crowd watching part of the fun of going on vacation?
