Tropical O-Asa

Asa may come across as a happy-go-lucky fellow. But just like everyone else he has an off day every once in a great while. Ok, so the first and only day I can think of it happening was one day in 2017 when I tried to surprise Asa with a Hawaiian themed staycation. So on this hazy, hot and humid day, let us go back in time to my attempt at creating a backyard tropical oasis…

Tropical Oh Asa (July 2017)

Asa and I couldn’t help but notice that a lot of our friends are going on vacation, but here we are stuck at home.  So I thought I’d try to do something special for Asa by making our backyard into a tropical oasis.  Ok, to be honest, I’ve never been to a tropical oasis, so I don’t really know what one looks like.  But I know it involves water, colorful toys and fancy food, so I got to work creating the perfect staycation for Asa and me.

I had a beach ball, sand pail, and three swimming pools with rubber duckies and a squeaky frog!

But was Asa impressed?  Not in the least!  He said my pools were too small to do any swimming.

Does Chuck Billy seriously thinks this resembles a tropical oasis? It’s more like a tropical depression!

Clearly Asa was missing the subtle details that made this special.  So I started showing him the toys one by one.

We have no sand. What am I suppose to do with the sand pail?

Finally something got Asa’s attention!  Or so I thought.  He happily started playing with the beach ball.  Then promptly popped it right in front of me.

Did Chuck Billy honestly think we could play fetch with an inflated beach ball?

That’s when I got mad and threw in the rubber ducky!

Dognabit! Tropical Oh Asa!  What does he know?  This is an awesome tropical oasis!

However, that’s when I remembered I still had one more surprise.  I bought a pineapple for dinner!

Look Asa, we have exotic food for our staycation!

Finally Asa’s attitude turned around!  If there’s one thing I know about my little brother, it’s he can’t resist trying new foods.

OK, I have to admit, Chuck Billy’s pineapple was a fun surprise.

Unfortunately though, I didn’t quite think through the whole pineapple thing.  Oh well, Asa can’t say I didn’t try to make life more interesting.

We never did figure out how to eat that pineapple.
