Unexplained Adventure Phenomena

Asa and I see a lot on roadtrips, we even have our own Golden Tail Wags Awards where we celebrate the weird and wonderful things we come across during the course of a year. But on our recent trip to Dresden, Maine, we witnessed not one but three Unexplained Adventure Phenomena that left even this renowned Dog Ufologist at a loss to fully explain. Yesterday when sharing our latest stop on Asa’s World Tour of Maine, I quoted from John Adam’s autobiography where in 1765 he was less than thrilled about his trip to reach this remote town. My ride there 259 years later was a lot more pleasant. However, I have to admit it was far from uneventful!

On the way to Dresden, we were passed by a very formidable looking vehicle. You can’t believe my excitement when I realized the sign on the side of the truck said, “Bigfoot Research Institute.” These guys are the real deal! They even have their own website where you can report sightings to them in Baltimore. But what were they doing in Maine? Sadly we reached our exit and had to head towards our planned tour stop, rather than follow the Bigfoot hunters to assist in their quest. Dad, Mom and Asa have no sense of adventure!

Note they covered the “.com” part of their Bigfoot Baltimore website address. Clearly they were traveling undercover for this mission!

Absorbed in my thoughts, pondering the many places the Bigfoot research team could be heading, I was jolted back to reality with Mom’s exclamation of “what is that?” Rising like the Loch Ness Monster in front of us above the trees was the weirdest road we had ever seen! And as luck would have it, GPS was leading us right towards it!

The Maine Kennebec Bridge (not to be confused with the Kennebec Memorial Bridge in Augusta) is wilder than most roller coasters with its steep pitch up, and dramatic drop down. Adding to the drama of the experience were the relatively low railings on either side of the bridge. After swallowing my heart out of my throat to get it back where it belonged, we all wondered what was the purpose. A google search said it was to accommodate ships passing under it to replace the old Richmond Dresden Bridge that had a swing panel. We’ve been on “high level” bridges before, but this feat of engineering seemed to really go ABOVE and could quite possibly send us into the beyond!

I wonder how the Kingda Ka, which is the tallest roller coaster in the world, compares to this?

After a relatively uneventful visit to the historic Pownalborough Court House, and mentally preparing ourselves to cross that roller coaster bridge again, we headed home. That’s when once again we spotted something definitely out of the ordinary, yet hidden in plain sight. There was a UFO driving along the highway!

Talk about distracted driving! How did none of the other vehicles notice this?

Check out this second photo! Clearly it was getting ready to take off at warp speed, with that bright flash of light.

No apps were used! This really is how the photo came out. Although none of us in the car saw the burst of light.

But then the extraterrestrial visitors must have noticed me, the renowned Dog Ufologist, in the car behind them, and decided not to take flight. In the third photo Mom snapped, it was just cruising along again with the rest of the traffic. Dad tried to convince me that it was one of those new fangled electric vehicles, but I know a UFO when I see one!

Kudos to Mom to have the presence of mind to snap these 3 photos while Dad drove.

Sometimes being Asa’s tour manager is a thankless job, that requires me to set aside my own research. So whereas I wanted to continue following the UFO when it took the nearest exit, I was once again outvoted. I suppose that was a wise decision. It was getting near dinner time, and one shouldn’t investigate a UFO on an empty tummy.

You never know what we’ll see on our adventures! Tune in next week for the next stop on Asa’s World Tour of Maine!
