One of our favorite beaches to visit with our dogs is Wells Beach in Wells, Maine. During the off-season, dogs are allowed all day. From June 16 through September 15, dogs are allowed before 8:00 AM and after 6:00 PM. Dogs must be on a leash. No dogs allowed between 8:00 AM and 6:00 PM during the summer season.
This long sandy beach offers plenty of space during low tide for the dogs to run and play. It is also a wide beach at the north end, and therefore accessible during high tide as well. It is not rocky, but does offer tide pools to explore during low tide. Access to the jetty end of the beach is a scenic path lined with dunes and nature area. The jetty at the entrance to Wells Harbor is also a popular fishing location.
We prefer to park on the quieter “jetty end” of the beach, rather than the more popular tourist area. Simply follow Mile Road from Route 1, then head north on Atlantic Avenue to the public parking lot. Please note that the parking meter kiosk only accepts debit and credit cards, and does not accept cash. Public restrooms are available during the Summer.
