Willful Waste, Makes Woeful Want

When it comes to food, Asa is very wasteful. This morning while eating breakfast he dropped a piece of kibble. Did he immediately retrieve it? Did he eat it once his bowl was empty? No! He finished his meal, left that one piece of kibble on the floor, and walked away! What a waste!

Normally, I would eat his dropped food before it even hits the ground. But I was confined in my crate when this incident occurred. When she can’t keep an eye on me, Mom makes me wait there while Asa eats. For some odd reason, she thinks I pressure him to share his meals with me. It isn’t my fault Asa can’t resist giving me his food. But I digress.

Time dragged on, seconds turned to minutes, but I kept my eyes focused on the single piece of kibble on the floor, while waiting for Mom to return to the room. Meanwhile Asa had the audacity to trot right past it, not once but twice! Oblivious as always to his waste of food.

Finally Mom came back to the kitchen and released me. I immediately pounced on the kibble, but with too much force! I accidentally knocked it under the door, out of reach! I pawed. I scratched. I whined! Eventually Mom, who is really way too distracted in the mornings, noticed my plight, and opened the door. Thus releasing the coveted piece of kibble!

Asa and Mom, haven’t you ever heard the 1576 proverb, “willful waste, makes woeful want”? Because I was woeful wanting that kibble!
