Best Sleep Ever

Can you keep a secret? Last night I had the best sleep ever, but don’t tell Mom or Dad! Dad forgot to shut the downstairs gate before heading up to bed. It’s been months since the gate has been left open all night! Now normally I jump at the chance to explore the house and let loose when this rare event happens. However, I had a very busy day, and I just wanted a comfy spot to sleep.

First I wandered around the off limits areas downstairs, but nothing appealed to me. I always have access to my beds in the living room and kitchen, so that would be wasting this rare opportunity. After careful examination I decided the other rooms didn’t have comfy options, so I headed upstairs.

I briefly considered joining Mom and Dad in the bedroom, but I could hear Dad snoring. How can anyone sleep with that racket? I peeked in to check and saw the glowing light of Mom’s phone screen. Dad must be keeping her awake too. Quietly so as not to get her attention, I moved on down the hallway considering my options.

The computer room would be a slightly different place to sleep. Although I can nap there anytime during the day, it’s usually off limits at night. However, Asa was already in there Skyping with his friends. I really wasn’t in the mood to listen to their goofy banter, so I continued my search.

Then I noticed the guest room door was slightly ajar. Finally the perfect place to sleep! I maneuvered my way past the Christmas boxes that hadn’t been stored in the attic yet, pushed a few miscellaneous items out of my way, and curled up on that luxurious unused bed. Which begs the question, why can’t I sleep here every night? Grandma only uses this room a few times a year. I’d be happy to still share this bed when she visits.

After the most wonderful sleep, I grabbed Asa who was looking still online chatting, and headed downstairs before Mom and Dad awoke. I didn’t want them to know my secret. Paws crossed Dad forgets to shut the gate again soon, so I can make this a regular habit.

Speaking of forgetting, did I remember to shut the guest room door behind me when I left?
