Beware of Falling Mice

There we were at the end of the driveway, with Mom and Dad leashed to Asa and myself, patiently waiting while Asa searched for the ideal spot to do his business. When all of a sudden something came falling out of the sky, almost hitting Mom! It happened so fast I didn’t get a good look at first. In fact, I jumped to the incorrect conclusion that Amazon must have used a drone to deliver my order. However, Mom’s scream of “it’s a mouse!” brought me back to the reality of the situation.

Asa immediately jumped into action, putting aside his personal needs, to resuscitate the mouse by attempting to roll on it. He had recently read Beverly Cleary’s The Mouse and the Motorcycle, and assumed it was Ralph S. Mouse on some sort of parachuting adventure gone wrong. As Mom and Dad simultaneously yelled, “leave it!,” out of the corner of my eye I noticed an ominous shadow on the ground. Circling above our heads was our new neighbor, Mr. Hawk.

That’s when I, great detective that I am, put two and two together and realized that this wasn’t an adventure seeking mouse or my Amazon order. This was a takeout delivery gone tragically wrong. Mr. Hawk must have accidentally dropped his dinner! Still shaken by the sudden intrusion, we continued on our walk so that Mr. Hawk could do a curbside pickup of his dinner. Well sort of, we only walked a few steps before Asa remembered he still needed to find the perfect spot to do his business!

I wonder what are the chances Mr. Hawk will accidentally do that again but with a pizza?
