Dad’s Big Gift Reveal

Dad really out did himself with his Christmas gift for Mom. Now before we reveal what he gave her, Asa and I would like to state for the record that we had absolutely nothing to do with this gift. Dad put our names on the gift tag without our permission. Also, for those who may be unfamiliar with this family tradition of Dad giving Mom practical gifts for holidays and birthdays, here is a quick summary of previous gifts – snow tires, ice cleats, push lawn mower, garage door, rain gutters. So without further ado, for Christmas 2022 Dad gave his Princess a throne… a new toilet seat!

Yep, Dad gave Mom a whisper close toilet seat! And if that wasn’t thoughtful enough, he purchased the “Jamestown” model, because he knows Mom loves history and always talks about returning to Jamestown, Virginia someday. Well now she can go there with each trip to use the facilities! Although there was some debate on Christmas morning as to whether the Jamestown toilet seat really was historically accurate.

In case you’re wondering, Mom not only graciously accepted her gift, she also couldn’t stop laughing when Dad explained his purchase process. Apparently after researching toilet seats online, he went to Home Depot and “tested” the display models for durability. None of us dared asked exactly what he did for those tests. After some careful consideration, not to mention the historic reference, Dad made his choice, picked up a roll of wrapping paper, and happily used the self-checkout. He did mention though that the person who monitored that area, had a big grin on her face as she waved goodbye to Dad and wished him a “Happy Holidays!” Mom is guessing there must be a viral video somewhere of Dad happily making his purchase.

Again, despite Asa’s attempt to make the best of an awkward situation, we did NOT have anything to do with the selection of this gift.
