Empty Hiver

I have to admit last week was a real nail biter for me worrying about merging my Honey Bees with Azzza Hive.  Would they be accepted?  Would they like their new home? Could they even find their new home after they go out for the day?  Ok, so that last one may seem silly to you considering the two hives were only a few feet apart.  But the first morning after consolidating the two hives I awoke to find a Bee clinging to MY window!

Our house has lots of windows, but this Honey Bee chose to cling to the screen of the window I look out the most.  What was she trying to tell me?  Was she lost?  Did war break out in the hive and she needed me to protect her?  Or worst yet, was she mad at me for making her move?  Asa, on the other hand, thought she must be there to thank me for moving her to such an awesome hive.  Or maybe she was just there to thank me for saving her colony!  Then Asa added with a menacing smile, how do we even know if it she was one of my Bees?  Perhaps it was one of his Bees seeking revenge for invading her kingdom.  Oh dear, he could be right!

As the week wore on, my fears intensified when I discovered another Bee.  Only this time she was inside the house on my window sill!  Maybe Asa was right about his Bees seeking revenge!  Or perhaps my Bees didn’t like their new home and wanted to move in with me?  Dad eased my fears by saying that the Bee probably came in the house when he put what was left of my hive in the basement.  Or flew in during the confusion of the merger when the basement door was open.  Either way, Dad safely returned the Honey Bee outside.  But how were the rest of my Bees?

Finally on Saturday Dad checked to see how everyone was doing and discovered…they were fine!  The ladies are all getting along!  They made a big circle in the newspaper to join the hives, and were happily coexisting!  Oh happy day!  That is until Dad started rearranging my Chuck BEEly Hive brood box frames.  He selected the best frames with the honey my Bees made, and then added the frames to Azzza Hive after he made room in there.  This way the skyscraper could be more compact in generating heat for the long winter months.  The two hives are now combined into the one kingdom of Azzza BEEly Hive!

That is when it hit me.  I’m officially an empty hiver!  My Honey Bees are off living a new life now with Asa’s Bees.  I hope they remember everything I taught them, and don’t get lured in by Azzza Hive’s party mentality.  Best wishes my Bees, and thank you Queen Bee, the foolishly named Princess of Darkness, for welcoming my beloved pets.
