Goofy Golden Dream Maker

The following events took place over the course of several days, but with an ending none of us imagined even in our wildest dreams. It all began one morning when Mom went to let us out of our bedroom. She’s a light sleeper, so we sleep in separate bedrooms. Anyways, rather than greet Mom at the door like he usually does, Asa decided to make her laugh by popping his head out from under the bed. Mission accomplished. Mom laughed, and Asa wiggled his way out from under the bed to start our day.

After a few mornings of greeting Mom this way, Asa decided to switch things around by literally turning around. That morning when Mom opened the door, rather than his head peeking out from under the bed, it was Asa’s wagging tail that greeted her. Again, this made Mom laugh, as Asa shimmied his way out from under the bed.

However, the next morning Asa took his little joke a bit too far. Mom opened the door wondering what she’d find, and she found nothing! Well she found me sleeping on my bed, but no sign of Asa. Confused she called his name, but no response. So she headed downstairs with me, in case he slept down there for some reason. Nope. Back upstairs she went to the guest room. This time she got down on the floor and peered under the bed. Sure enough Asa was way in the back wedged under the bed! But being an agreeable fellow, he was just patiently waiting there to be rescued. After a failed attempt to coax him out, Mom woke up Dad to lift the bed to release Asa.

Personally, I thought Asa should have stayed there all day, but no one consults me on such things. That night, Mom was worried Asa would get stuck or worst yet hurt under the bed, so she started to block the area. However, Dad is all about training opportunities. He decided that he would sleep in the room, and when Asa inevitably tried to crawl under again, he would teach him to stop. Sounds good right? Well remember, Dad can sleep through anything. Therefore, I was doubtful of his plan, but happy to have the added company.

As we all drifted off to sleep Dad started having a dream. For some reason he was in an art museum, looking at ocean paintings, when all of a sudden the floor beneath him began to move! Dad said the best way he could describe it was like being on a boat in choppy water. Well Dad didn’t have his sea legs at that dream museum, and soon found himself feeling nauseous from the swells. He awoke with a jolt, wondering what that dream was about, when he realized the bed was still moving! That’s when it dawned on him, Asa was under the bed again, and having a dream of his own. Asa was happily kicking and wagging his tail in his sleep which in turned moved the futon mattress!

So much for that teachable moment. But that sure made Dad laugh, as he rescued Asa from underneath the bed. Since then, Mom has blocked access, while Asa dreams up new ways to make her smile in the morning.

Never underestimate the lengths Asa will go to just to make people laugh.
Don’t even think of invading my dreams!
