Home Is Where the Ball Is

This weekend we attended the 5th Annual New England Golden Jubilee! This was our third year partying with over 100 Golden Retrievers at Dog Mountain in Saint Johnsbury, Vermont. I can’t wait to tell you all about it, but I need to sort through Mom’s photos first and collect my thoughts. So in the meantime, let me tell you about another one of our Dog Mountain traditions – our hotel stay!

Each year Asa and I look forward to checking in to the Comfort Inn and Suites because they always give us treats. This time though the staff really went above and beyond, by not only giving us treats, but tennis balls too! Because as any dog will tell you, “Home Is Where the Ball Is.”

Ok, so the sign says “dog.” But we know what they really mean.

Asa immediately made himself at home with his new toy.

Nothing beats a new tennis ball at the start of a grand adventure!

In addition to the surprise of new tennis balls, I was startled to see that Asa’s Imaginary Friend brought a friend with him this year.

I must admit, there’s something familiar about Asa’s Imaginary Friend’s friend.

No worries though, I had more important things to do. We don’t get the History Channel at home, and I was anxious to settle in and watch my favorite TV show, Ancient Aliens!

The History Channel must know this is my tradition, because every year they have an Ancient Aliens marathon the night we check in to the hotel.

There’s something very comforting drifting off to sleep to the sound of Ancient Aliens Theorist, Giorgio A. Tsoukalos.

My hero…

Unfortunately, Asa was too tired the following night to choose a favorite show to watch on TV. But then again, TV is my tradition, not his.

I really wish I could stay awake long enough to watch something on Turner Classic Movies.

Asa, on the other paw, may have started his very own new tradition this year. He found his voice! Yep, my normally quiet brother who barks at nothing, decided staying in a hotel was the perfect time to try flirting…behind the safety of a closed door. It all started when he heard out in the hall the telltale jingle of dog tags, followed by a thump of a tail on our door. She didn’t bark back though. So Asa gave up and went back to being quiet.

Do you think she heard me? Do you think she’ll talk to me at the Jubilee?

Speaking of barking, my apologies to the dogs in the room next door. I didn’t mean to wake you early Sunday morning with my new squeaky ball. Apparently the tennis ball in my New England Golden Jubilee swag bag squeaked. I thought it was a traditional ball like the one the hotel gave me.

Oh hi Mom! You’re awake early!

Speaking of the hotel, thank you Comfort Inn and Suites for hosting approximately 20 dogs for the New England Golden Jubilee! Asa and I look forward to staying here every year. Please tune in later on this week when I finally sort though Mom’s bazillion photos to tell you all about the 5th Annual New England Golden Jubilee!

Thank you Comfort Inn and Suites in Saint Johnsbury, VT for being our home away home!
