Today we are rocking down the highway to Peru on our 11th stop on Asa’s World Tour of Maine! Incorporated in 1821, as the 240th town in Maine, Peru was named in the spirit of liberty and solidarity for Peru, the South American country which declared independence from Spain in July 1821. Speaking of independence, why is Llily Llama joining us today?
Asa: Llily heard that Llamas are native to Peru, so wanted to tag along.
Chuck Billy: The country! NOT the town in Maine. Although with its rich soil, hay was the chief crop during the early years of its settlement, and there are many horse farms in the area today, so I can see why Llily Llama would want to visit. But this tour isn’t about her. Come over here I have something to show you!
Chuck Billy: Remember when Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters broke his leg on tour? He designed a super cool throne to play from while he healed. This can be the throne for you to perform on while your dewclaw heals.
Asa: I don’t know. Llily Llama says it may be dangerous for me to get up there. You know how clumsy I am. I don’t want to take a real stage dive, and fall!
Chuck Billy: Listen Llily, enough with the llama drama! I’m the tour manager. I know what’s best. Besides I have a different type of falls in mind for Asa today.
Asa: Well that sounds ominous. But what could possibly go wrong? Come on Llily Llama! Let’s see what Chuck Billy has planned.
Chuck Billy: Welcome to French Falls River Walk in nearby Jay, Maine!
Asa: Is that a duck over the backstage entrance? This place is just…Ducky!!!
Chuck Billy: I knew you’d like it! Part of this trail was a section of the original Route 4 back in 1912. So you could start the show with your parody of AC/DC’s “Long Way to the Top,” with your version of Long Way for a Walk.
Asa: That’s not really a highway song. If you gave more notice I would have wrote a parody of the classic, “Get Your Kicks on Route 66.” What rhymes with Route 4?
Chuck Billy: Door, floor, more, store…. Oh! Forget all that! We don’t have time to write a new parody! How’s your paw doing?
Asa: It’s just fine. Doesn’t bother me at all, now let’s sing!
Walkin’ down the driveway
Sniffin’ everything
Stoppin’ and more delays
Seein’ all my friends
Gettin’ petted
Gettin’ out
Gettin’ caught up
Distractions
Gettin’ heeled
Gettin’ walked
I tell you, folks
It’s harder than it looks
It’s a long way for a walk if you wanna sniff it all
It’s a long way for a walk if you wanna sniff it all….
Chuck Billy: STOP Singing! Check out this sign above my head, “Shh, Just listen…” Guess we can’t have a concert here after all.
Thus concludes this stop on Asa’s World Tour of Maine! Join us tomorrow as we share more of our hike at French Falls River Walk.
