Lemmy’s Spot

Nine years ago on this date, April 18, 2014, at approximately 9:00 PM, our brother Lemmy crossed Rainbow Bridge. That night I promised Lemmy that I would keep his memory alive by sharing his stories. Over the years I’ve told Asa about Lemmy’s grand adventures, and his many quirks. Today I’d like to talk about Lemmy’s spot. No not the white spot on Lemmy’s face, that Mom and Dad believe was Lemmy’s way of telling them Asa would someday join our family. I’m talking about Lemmy’s favorite spot to be at home and away, in order to be close to them. A spot that at the time Mom and Dad accepted as normal. After all, they were told Golden Retrievers are clingy and Lemmy was their first dog. However, looking back they now realize just how special Lemmy’s spot truly was.

Lemmy’s favorite spot was to be under people’s chairs, so if he drifted off to sleep any movement would wake him.

Lemmy began doing this on his first day home, when he curled up on Mom’s feet under the kitchen table.

Underneath chairs didn’t always prove to be the most comfortable of places to nap, yet he would insist on wedging himself into place.

Inside the house…

…or outside, under a chair was often where Lemmy could be found.

Even on grand adventures! Look closely, see him under that bench?

Being under a chair wasn’t always possible, so Lemmy would find other ways to remain close, while staying under something.

Alright, I admit when I joined the family, Lemmy really had to improvise some days.

Also when Dad or Mom insisted on standing, or no chair was available, Lemmy still managed to be in his favorite spot close to them.

Now before you ask, yes Lemmy sometimes got tired of being around us. In those situations his favorite spot was under the sofa table. But don’t worry, more often than not someone was sitting on the sofa, so he was still near enough to monitor all activity.

One thing was certain with Lemmy, he was always close. That is why nine years later we continue to hold him close in our hearts today. We love you and miss you, Lemmy!
