Lost Without Us

It has become painfully obvious that Mom and Dad are lost without us.  Saturday was a rainy day, and going on an adventure with us was out of the question.  I like mud as much as the next dog, but it looked like monsoon season out there.  So Mom said, “let’s be wild and crazy and do something without the dogs!”  Normally I’d protest, but all this keeping an eye on Mom and Dad for training is exhausting, and I could use a little me time.  But where to go without us?

Mom and Dad talked about going shopping.  However, it didn’t take long for them to agree that they didn’t need anything, so it would be a waste of money.  Don’t need anything?  I NEED plenty of things!  Take me to Petco and I’ll show you!  Oh there I go again asserting myself into their plans.  Well at least on the bright side, they are saving money to spend on me later.

Next they discussed going to the movies.  Dad couldn’t remember the last time they went to an actual movie theater.  But after reading the reviews, nothing caught their attention to go see.  Ok, I don’t blame them.  Is it just me, or are other dogs unnerved by ads with the live action Pooh Bear for the new Christopher Robin movie?  Despite what Asa thinks, squeaky toys should not walk and talk, never mind star in their own movie!

Mom suggested revisiting the many historic house museums in the area.  Why would anyone want to visit an old house that nobody lives in anymore?  Note to self, mention to trainer Mom’s anti-social behavior.  Dad, in turn, suggested indoor go-carts.  Now he was being irrational!  If they’re going to go for a car ride, they might as well bring Asa and me with them.  Besides, I just don’t understand the point of driving round and round in circles in a tiny car that doesn’t have room for dogs.  Car rides should have a destination, like the beach, or at least the bank where I get a treat.

After dragging out this conversation most of the day, pausing at times during the tropical downpours while their phones screeched flash flood warnings, Mom and Dad finally reached a decision.  And yes, you guessed right, it included Asa and me!  They took us for a car ride to pick up take out at a new restaurant.  Then over dinner they discussed all the wonderful places they would like to go with us.  Thus proving that Mom and Dad would be lost without Asa and I as their activities directors!  Don’t worry though, when the sun reappeared on Sunday, we headed out together for a tail wagging adventure on a new hiking trail!

Just because Mom & Dad didn’t know how to spend the day, doesn’t mean Asa and I didn’t have plans. There’s no better way to spend a rainy day than napping!
