Miraculous Return

You’re not going to believe this, but Mom’s old camera is working again!  Yes, the camera that broke in July.  The very same camera that the guy at the repair store said couldn’t be fixed.  It suddenly decided to work again!  Mom was reluctant to get rid of her faithful companion, so it has been sitting on our sofa table for close to two months.  On Friday evening, Mom decided it was time to remove the battery.  However, before she did it, out of habit she turned it on.  That’s when it happened.  The screen that had gone black was working again!  Mom snapped a picture.  Then hit review and it was there!  Mom began shrieking with excitement, and dancing around the kitchen with Asa by her side.  He can’t resist a good celebration even if he’s clueless on what they were celebrating.  All is right in Mom’s world once more!  Now being the great dog detective that I am, I can’t let this miraculous event go by without a few conspiracy theories:

Theory 1: The camera tried to stage an intervention.  113,400+ photos clearly proves Mom has a problem and needs to put the camera down and take a break.  Therefore, the camera took it upon itself to stage an intervention by refusing to work for awhile.  However, it being a camera, and never having done this before, it’s attempt to show Mom the error of her ways failed.  Too bad the camera didn’t inform me of it’s plan. I would have happily helped with the intervention.

Theory 2: The old camera got jealous of the new camera.  I know jealousy can be a great motivator for me to photobomb Asa, so why wouldn’t the same apply to actual cameras?  Further proving this theory is on the same day it decided to randomly start working again, Mom had Googled small point and shoot cameras to see if there were any similar ones to replace the discontinued model.  That must have been the old camera’s tipping point!  It knew the new camera Dad bought wasn’t an equal replacement.  However, the thought of Mom finding another perfect pocket sized camera made it summon it’s core strength and work once more.

Theory 3: Our house is built on a portal to another dimension.  This would also explain our Pink Flamingo’s disappearance and return later in the spring, the missing dog nail clippers which have yet to be found, and now the sudden resurrection of the broken camera.

Whatever the reason, Mom is happy.  Although she likes her new camera, it’s big and awkward to always have handy.  Since it’s arrival Mom has missed out on the embarrassing candid photos she loves to take of us.  However, she does admit the new camera is better for capturing our grand adventures.  Therefore, the plan is she’ll keep her old camera nearby around the house and will carry the other camera on adventures.  This way they both get used, and won’t feel jealous of each other.  Now if you’ll please excuse me, “Mom, I’m ready for my close-up!”

Camera: “The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.”
