My Weird Little Brother

My little brother is weird. At first glance, one would assume the photo is of a dog begging for bacon. However, looks can be deceiving. Instead this is a photo of Asa waiting patiently for some of that spinach. In fact, he has no interest at all in the bacon. Yes, you read that right. My brother is obsessed with spinach.

I’m not even sure when this addiction to green leafy vegetables began. It may have been as a puppy when he acquired a taste for dandelion greens in the yard. Or perhaps when as a healthier alternative to treats, Mom started giving us kale fresh from the garden. Or maybe he wants to be like Popeye, and be “Strong to the finish, ‘Cause I eats me spinach.” Regardless, whether it is fresh from our garden, or in a container, Asa comes running from wherever he is to get a taste.

With the exception of peanut butter, this is the only food that Asa gets super excited about and will come running on his own without any prompting from me. In fact, notice that I’m not in this photo. Why you ask? Because I want the bacon! I’ve never actually tasted it ever, but based on the smell and their refusal to share, I know it is good. Therefore, Dad confined me to the living room when he was making it for his BLT sandwich.

Oh and in case you’re wondering, not only did Asa get a healthy helping of spinach, adding insult to me being unfairly kept away from the bacon, I was given spinach too.

Asa, quite possibly the only dog on Earth who would prefer spinach over bacon!
