The countdown is on for the 9th Annual New England Golden Jubilee! On May 20, 2023 Golden Retrievers from across New England and beyond will be gathering at Dog Mountain in St. Johnsbury, Vermont with a purpose – to support the critical research of the Morris Animal Foundation’s Golden Retriever Lifetime Study, to honor the important mission of Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue, to remember special Golden angels, and to celebrate what it means to be a Golden Retriever! According to the organizers of the New England Golden Jubilee, Sandra and Peter Lok, “The mere presence of a Golden Retriever, their soft fur, wide smiles and soulful eyes, helps to enrich our lives. The New England Golden Jubilee is about helping to enrich the lives of these beloved beings. We’ll celebrate their very presence and indulge their playful spirits with pure Golden Fun!”
The day will be filled with games, swimming, hiking, and everyone’s favorite highlight – the Great Tennis Ball Toss! Fireball and Porsche will once again be performing a musical freestyle dance demo, and rumor has it Martini may be making her Jubilee debut! Speaking of debut, thank you to this year’s new sponsor Papa Tirozzi’s Bakery, Pizza and Fish Shack! And a big bark out to Earth Rated for once again donating poop bags to keep our favorite mountain clean! And be sure to show your support for the New England Golden Jubilee buy purchasing your official apparel. Proceeds from all merchandise sold will benefit the Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. So even if you can’t attend, please consider getting some Jubilee gear to support this great cause.
Speaking of great cause, don’t forget to bring cash for the Kibble Cup Auction to benefit Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue. Raffle tickets will be available only at the event. Prizes include awesome gift baskets with items for both dogs and humans. There is still time to donate items to the auction, but please do it soon so that volunteers will have time to make the raffle baskets. It takes a lot to put on an event this big, from registration, basket assembly, goodie bag distribution, kibble cup auction and cookout, so if your human would like to volunteer at this free event, please contact Sandra Lok.
Although the New England Golden Jubilee is a joyous celebration, it is also a time to pay tribute to dear friends who have crossed Rainbow Bridge. As in previous years, we will gather in front of Dog Chapel in their memory, as well as honor the Heroes participating in the Morris Animal Foundation’s Golden Retriever Lifetime Study. The Rev. Cn. Susan Ohlidal of St. Andrew’s Church will once again be joining us for a Blessing of the Animals.
This year’s guest speaker will be Dr. Renee Alsarraf, veterinary oncologist, and author of SIT, STAY, HEAL. She will be sharing insights into her experiences treating companion animals who had been diagnosed with cancer, all the while having been diagnosed with the dreaded disease herself, with her message about “what dogs can teach us about living well.” You may recognize Dr. Renee Alsarraf from her recent appearance on the Kelly Clarkson Show. Copies of her book will be available that day for her to sign.
And we’d be remiss if we didn’t say a huge THANK YOU to Dog Mountain Home of Stephen Huneck Gallery for hosting this annual event. Dog Mountain is truly a dog paradise, and we owe them an our gratitude for providing the perfect place for us to celebrate all things Golden!
