One Giant Leap Forward for Asa

As you know, Mom and Dad have that ridiculous “Four Paws on the Floor” rule, which means we’re not allowed on the furniture. Now being a good boy myself, I never break that rule. Asa, on the other paw, prior to his eye surgery was a rebel and would frequently jump up on the couch or the guest room bed, when he thought no one was watching.

Note the good boy on his dog bed. Not the point of the story, but I thought I’d share anyways.
More proof of Asa breaking the Four Paws on the Floor rule, while I slept on the guest room floor, like a good boy.

Well Mom was watching all those years, and she never said a word to Dad. It was their little secret.

Alright, half the time Asa was sleeping and never knew he was caught by Mom. But again not the point.

Anyways, since February following Asa’s surgery to have his left eye removed due to GRPU, he stopped jumping up onto his two favorite spots. This made Mom very sad. Even when we visited Grandma, where the Four Paws on the Floor rule doesn’t apply, it took a lot of coaxing to get Asa up onto her Golden couch. A place he use to immediately jump and settle in for visits.

Not his usual confident self. Oh and in case you’re wondering, I look troubled because I knew Dad was watching, and wanted to make sure he knew this wasn’t my idea to be up there. I was just moral support.

However, recently Mom heard a familiar noise from the guest room. She peeked around the corner, and much to her joy and delight, there was Asa on the bed! It was the first time since the surgery that he’s had the confidence to take that leap of faith with his new depth perception.

Please excuse the messy blankets. Asa did a lot of happy dancing that day.

Was he confused when Mom rushed in and hugged him, praising him for being a good boy? Absolutely! After all there is that pesky Four Paws on the Floor rule he should be following. But once Asa realized Mom was celebrating, he did the best happy dance on the guest room bed, followed by a hesitant but brave leap off the bed!

Asa still hasn’t attempted this on the couch, but that’s alright. Maybe for once he’ll respect that rule like I do. But if he does get up there too, I can guarantee there will be more hugs and happy dancing!
