As the unrelenting heatwave continues to blanket parts of the country, we once again have rain in the forecast here in New England. At first I blamed Asa for doing too many rain dances, as the reason why Mother Nature won’t share our rain with the rest of the country. But then I stumbled upon this song parody Asa wrote back in 2021, to Lovin’ Spoonful’s “Summer in the City.” Who would have guessed that Mother Nature is a fan of Asa’s music, and is sending him the rain he requested in this song? Maybe if you sing this song really loud, Mother Nature will make it rain almost every weekend for you too?
Hot dog, summer in the city
Back of my paws feeling dirty and gritty
Oh look! A squirrel and a kitty!
It’s too hot to play, isn’t it a pity?
All around, the flowers wilting half dead
Walking early morning, wishing I was in bed
But then when it starts to rain
No dog would dare to complain
Come on, come on and splash away
Despite the heat it’ll be okay!
And pups, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the rain can’t be here everyday
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city
Cool dogs, listen to my ditty
Playing in the mud and looking so pretty
Cooled off, feeling really giddy
Gonna splash in every puddle in the city
‘Til I’m wet soaking like a damp mop
Running all around, getting muddy that I can’t stop
But in the heat it’s a different world
Go out and my paws burn
Come on, come on and cool things down
Bring on the rain so I can be a clown
And pups, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the rain can’t be here everyday
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city
Hot dog, summer in the city
Back of my paws feeling dirty and gritty
Oh look! A squirrel and a kitty
It’s too hot to play, isn’t it a pity?
All around, the flowers wilting half dead
Walking early morning, wishing I was in bed
But then when it starts to rain
No dog would dare to complain
Come on, come on and splash away
Despite the heat it’ll be okay!
And pups, don’t you know it’s a pity
That the rain can’t be here to stay
In the summer, in the city
In the summer, in the city
