Remember, Honor, Teach

This morning a convoy will be leaving a quiet corner of Downeast Maine headed to Arlington National Cemetery on an important mission to deliver tens of thousands of handmade wreaths to remember our fallen Veterans, honor those who serve, and teach the children the value of freedom. Every December since 1992, the Worcester Wreath Company of Columbia Falls, Maine, coordinates a wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 2,100 additional locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad. This year, due to the pandemic, the tradition of Wreaths Across America was almost canceled. However, thanks to dedicated staff and a team of volunteers, this touching tribute of laying wreaths on the graves of those who have served our country will continue.

This year’s convoy will consist of one tractor trailer load of wreaths hauled by Gold Star Father and Navy Veteran JD Walker, 11 vehicles carrying Gold Star Families, and nine police cruisers. Their mission begins today, Tuesday, December 15, 2020 and will culminate on National Wreaths Across America Day, Saturday, December, 19, 2020.

Although the scheduled stops will NOT be open to the public as in years past, the public IS INVITED to join along the roadside with signs, flags and cheers to welcome the escort as it travels through each community. To follow the convoy’s schedule including route, please visit Wreaths Across America. Then log on to Wreaths Across America Facebook Live on Friday, December 18 from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM, and Saturday, December 19, at 12 Noon, for live broadcasts of virtual events, including the wreath laying ceremony. You can also track their progress on Twitter at Wreaths Across America, or tune in to Wreaths Across America Radio to listen to updates.
