Rock and Roll All Day in Lebanon, Maine

Alright, I admit the first stop on Asa’s World Tour of Maine was a bit of a washout by being overly ambitious. Hence why for the second stop we are visiting a smaller venue that is perfect for an up and coming rock star. We are rocking and rolling from Lebanon, the westernmost town in Maine! Settled 280 years ago in 1743, this became Maine’s 23rd town in 1767. According to the 1886 Gazetteer of the State of Maine, “the chief natural curiosity of the town is ‘Gully Oven,’ situated in a deep ravine.” This is why I have chosen Gully Oven Natural Area for the second stop of Asa’s World tour, because he too is a “curiosity” of nature!

Asa: Wow, this place really rocks!

Chuck Billy: Now if you’ll step this way, you’ll see it has the perfect amphitheater for a small intimate audience, with great acoustics.

Asa: It certainly has the feel of the iconic concert venue, Red Rocks, but without the pesky views to distract from my show.

Chuck Billy: Speaking of distractions, this venue has an enormous natural green screen! Perfect for you to showcase images from your career to enhance the audience’s experience!

Asa: I can totally imagine early photos from my rise to fame being flashed on this green screen behind me while I sing!

Chuck Billy: Mother Nature is even helping by shining the spotlight on you!

Asa: Excellent! But what is up with all these tennis balls along the trail that are cut in half and numbered? I thought this was a general admission show, without assigned seats?

Chuck Billy: I’ve been meaning to tell you, the show has to wait a bit. The venue was already booked for the regular meeting of a remote control car club. Don’t walk away!!! As your tour manager, I have a plan…honest!!!

Chuck Billy: We’ll just go down the road for a meet and greet at the Lebanon Town Pound.

Chuck Billy: Just keep smiling, I’m sure a stray animal, oops I mean fan, will be here any minute now…

While we wait for fans, tune in tomorrow to learn about a concert that happened in 1871 at Gully Oven Natural Area in Lebanon, by an internationally known musician, and be sure to join us next week for the third stop on Asa’s World Tour of Maine!
