Sebago Lake State Park, Casco, ME

It’s no secret that we love adventures along Maine’s coastline. However, Maine’s lake region also has many dog friendly places to explore. So we leashed up the humans and headed inland to Sebago Lake State Park in Casco, Maine. Spoiler Alert: Before you pack your beach blanket, please note that dogs are NOT allowed on Sebago state beach between April 1 and September 30. However, dogs are welcome to explore the extensive trail network year round.

Consisting of 1,400 acres of forest, ponds, river, wetlands, and beaches along Maine’s deepest lake, we barely scratched the surface exploring Sebago State Lake Park’s 5 miles of trails in the day use area. We began our adventure on the Songo River Trail. There we found quiet spots to wet our paws, and pause to enjoy the views. From there we hiked back on the densely forested Woodlands Trail, to the short cut through Woods Trail, before pausing at the picnic area to enjoy a well-earned snack with Mom and Dad. The trails are well marked, and easy to follow, with posted maps at trail intersections, thus giving hikers plenty of options to make their own adventure each time they visit.

Dogs are allowed on the trails, but must be leashed. No dogs allowed on the beach area from April 1st to September 30th. And as always please pick up after your pups in this carry out park. Sebago Lake State Park is located at 11 Park Access Rd, in Casco, Maine. There is a nominal entry fee, and the park is open daily from 9:00 AM to dusk.

Sebago Lake State Park is an extremely popular destination during the summer. So if you prefer a quiet hike away from the crowds, we recommend visiting during the off-season, and avoiding peak times during the summer.
