Suspicious Character in Aisle 9

I was working an overtime shift patrolling the aisles of Home Depot with Dad. Yes, it’s beyond the range of my usual neighborhood patrol duties, but I’m always willing to lend a helping paw. Good thing too, because I noticed a very suspicious character.

“What are you looking at?”

Based on that surly grin on his face, I knew he must have been up to no good.

“A little privacy, please? Stop watching me!”

That’s when I proceeded to try to question him. However, he just mirrored my every move.

“I know you are, but what am I?”

Yet I was undaunted by his games. After all, I’ve seen it all living with Asa. After reflecting on the situation, I decided to unnerve him with my best menacing stare.

“Must…not…make…eye contact. Dognabit, I did!”

That’s when he let his guard down, and revealed his true self. He wasn’t a suspicious character. He was just as surprised to see me in the store as I was to see him.

“Hey friend! Nice to see you!”

So I left him to go about his business, while I helped Dad search for a nut. Boy was I disappointed when I realized by “nut” he meant some metal thing and not a delicious snack. I was hoping to receive a reward for my astute observational skills.

Glad Chuck Billy didn’t notice me, Asa’s Imaginary Friend, shopping one aisle away. Otherwise Asa would have been really disappointed to know I went shopping without him!
