That Time I Tried to Ride on a School Bus

As I watched the school bus drive past my house this morning, I was reminded of the kids who use to wait for it near my driveway. Back then I included pausing at the bus stop on my morning walk, so they could pet me. I would happily send them off for the day with a grin and tail wag, as the bus drove them away. In the afternoon if Mom’s schedule cooperated, by getting home from work on time, I would be there to greet them when the bus brought them home. In between I would daydream on what it would be like to go with them on that bus ride to school. Join me today for a drive down memory lane as I share my plan from 2015 to also get a ride on that bus.

School Bus Envy (September 9, 2015)

School buses are awesome!  It is the ultimate car ride for dogs:

They are filled with kids who want to pet and play with me.

Kids who are easily distracted and may lose track of their delicious lunches, making for a quick snack for me.

And unlike Mom and Dad’s cars, school buses have a runway straight down the middle for dogs to stretch their legs on long trips.

Oh and don’t even get me started on once at school, how much fun playing with the students during recess would be!

What could be better than that! Further proof that school buses are wonderful, is the fact that like all awesome things, including indoor restaurants and public swimming pools, humans want to keep them for themselves and not share. Not fair!

But this year I have a plan! I’m going to disguise myself as a student, and wait patiently at my front door for the bus to come and pick me up. Surely with all those kids on the bus, the driver is distracted and won’t notice my tail. Paws crossed this works…

2023 Update: It didn’t work. But I sure looked cute trying!
