Watch Dog Duty

Over the years I’ve made my life as a watch dog seem very exciting. From barking at jaywalking squirrels on neighborhood patrol, to protecting my yard from trespassing deer, to solving the occasional bear crimes, I’ve done some really interesting things while protecting my family and neighbors. Yet my job also has a lot of down time…literally down/stay time. Take for example my responsibility to guard my kibble, stored just beyond this door.

It requires intense concentration.

Sure there are distractions, but I remain dedicated to my post.

The hours can be long…

…but that gives me time to think.

I occasionally receive backup support from Asa.

Overall though, I’m my own support system.

Would I like to relax and put my paws up? Yes! But I’m always listening.

That also includes adjusting my position to hear better, but never leaving my post.

It is also my responsibility to keep my work area clean…

…because eventually all that hard work protecting my kibble pays off, and I’m rewarded with a delicious meal!

What? No blueberries added to my kibble? I’ve worked up an appetite guarding my post! Sometimes being a watch dog is a thankless job!
