All the Comforts of Home

I’m feeling nostalgic this morning. Six years ago Asa and I attended our first New England Golden Jubilee. The event itself at Dog Mountain wasn’t our only first that weekend. It was also the first time that we stayed in a hotel. This weekend Goldens from across New England and beyond will be attending the New England Golden Jubilee. I’m sure many of them will be staying at hotels in the area, perhaps for some it will be for their first time. Unfortunately, Asa and I are unable to attend this year. So please join me for a walk down memory lane, as I reminisce about that stay with all the comforts of home.

Golden Life of Luxury (May 26, 2017)

I can’t believe Mom and Dad have been keeping this secret from me.  Hotels are AWESOME!  Oops, there I go again barking at you.  Sorry, it’s just that I’m still really excited about our trip last weekend to Dog Mountain.  It was the first time I stayed in a hotel!  From the moment we arrived, Asa and I were treated like celebrities.  There was a sign welcoming us to the New England Golden Jubilee weekend, and the front desk clerk greeted us with treats.  It’s as if they were expecting ME!

Arriving at our hotel, little did we realize what luxuries awaited us!

After a quick elevator ride, we were at our room.  Talk about luxury!  It was like our entire house condensed into one room.  There was a living room couch, the biggest bed we have ever seen, an equally big TV, a desk for Dad, a microwave and fridge for our treats, and even a bathroom for Mom and Dad.  What more could we possibly need?  They thought of everything!  Even Asa’s Imaginary Friend was there!

Asa couldn’t believe his eyes! His Imaginary Friend was staying at the hotel too!
There was also a fancy bathroom for us to use! You don’t find classy hydrants like these in our neighborhood back home!

As you can see, Asa tried barking “shotgun” to claim the bed.  However, once again Mom and Dad were playing by their rules and didn’t want to share with us.  No worries, I settled in on the floor to watch my favorite shows on the biggest TV I have ever seen, while Asa made himself comfortable on the chair.  Yep, once again Asa blatantly broke the four paws on the floor rule.

Apparently the hotel agrees with Mom and Dad, and have a no dogs on the bed rule too.
Always the rule breaker, Asa made himself comfortable on the chair instead.

I have to be honest though, that first night was a bit rough.  Dad forgot to tell me that it wasn’t my responsibility to guard the hotel.  So around 2:00 AM when some folks were talking loudly in the hall, I immediately jumped into watch dog mode.  I started barking at the door to protect my family.  But rather than receiving well deserved praise, Mom and Dad told me to stop.  Confused, I went back to sleep.  Mom should have at least been happy that my barking made Dad stop snoring for a moment.  Anyways, it happened again two more times around 2:30 AM and 3:00 AM.  Seriously, who are these people who sleep less than Asa?  Didn’t they know I had a big day ahead and needed my rest?  Oh and in case you’re wondering, Asa did nothing to help.  He just silently stood at the door wagging his tail waiting for someone to break into our room!  Our second night went a lot smoother because I was too exhausted from the New England Golden Jubilee to do anything more than thump my tail in a disapproving manner on the floor when people were loud in the hallway.  Even Dad’s snoring couldn’t keep me awake that second night!

Our reenactment of the first night. For some reason Mom wasn’t in the mood to take pictures at 2:00 AM.
Watch dogs off duty.

Thank you Comfort Inn and Suites in St. Johnsbury, Vermont for our weekend of Golden luxury!  You certainly thought of everything to make our trip to Dog Mountain extra special!  We look forward to staying with you again.

To everyone headed to the New England Golden Jubilee this weekend, we hope you have an awesome time with all the comforts of home! Oh and be sure to share lots of photos on Facebook, so Asa and I can attend vicariously through you this year!
