Friends, I’ve had another detour on my health journey. The nasal fungal infection is resisting treatment. The return of the symptoms last month wasn’t a respiratory infection as we originally hoped. Although the antibiotics did help with the sneezing, after being off the medication for over a week the ooze has slowly returned to the left side. But there’s still hope!
My Internal Medicine Veterinarian did some research, and found that there is a second anti-fungal medication that when paired with the one I’m already on, work well together at keeping the Aspergillosis under control. She also put me on another round of antibiotics since it did show an improvement with the old nose cannon and the honking cough.
However, that’s not the only area of concern. I’ve been having episodes of blindness again. The first couple of times it was just temporary when I wake up in the morning, and resolved itself as I went about my morning routine. However, on Saturday it lasted a lot longer, hours actually. It did eventually correct itself. Today, I awoke again unable to see. It’s too early to tell how long it may last, or if it will resolve itself.
My Ophthalmologist had cautioned us that this could happen. Due to the scarring holding my pupil open and the cysts from Golden Retriever Pigmentary Uveitis, things can shift and change, especially after I been lying down for long periods. However, please know when these blindness episodes happen, I’m NOT scared! I’ve become really good at maneuvering in the shadows, and trusting my hearing and nose to lead the way. So when I do bump into things, I pause, wag my tail, and set off on a different course.
