It isn’t uncommon for rock stars to be asked to share their expertise, whether it be on a competition show, a documentary, or even on current events. It is a sign of respect for their status in the music industry. Well, my friends, I have finally been recognized for my role in music! I have been asked to participate in a Nielsen Radio Survey!
For those not familiar, “a trusted research company for more than 90 years, Nielsen is a global leader in media measurement and analysis.” The Nielsen Ratings is the standard measurement for what audiences are listening to on the radio and watching on television. Therefore it was an honor to receive a letter in the mail addressed to ME, to participate in their radio survey! Not Mom. Not Dad. ME! Because by participating in the Nielsen ratings, I have “a voice in the important decisions made by broadcasters, advertisers, and other businesses!”
Participation was easy. I simply had to keep track of all the times I listened to the radio over a one week period. It could be channels I specifically picked, or stations I heard at work or out and about. I simply had to record the time, the station, and whether I was in the car, at home, work or other. Alright, truth be told I asked Mom and Dad to help me fill out the form because 1. They are better at telling time than me. 2. Are the ones usually in charge of the radio. And 3. Have better penmanship to fill out this very important form.
The survey is confidential, probably to protect my rock star status from having too much sway over my fans. However, I can say my response included a lot of Bon Jovi Radio, Road Trip Nation, as well as some other channels Dad has playing as background music while he works. While shopping at the local pet supply store, Mom even asked the cashier what the station was, so we could record that too. Thank you Nielsens for asking for my expert opinion! It is an honor to be able to help.
