Sea to Summit Dogs Day Out

Summer is a great time to get out and enjoy the many dog friendly places that New England has to offer.  From sea to summit, here are a few of our favorite places to spend the day with our dogs.  To plan your next dog day out, including directions, parking, current weather and more, please click on the highlighted name.  Also be sure to visit our Dog Friendly Places page for a complete list of all the dog friendly beaches, hiking trails, and scenic walks that we recommend!

Bay View Beach, Saco, ME: Whereas most beaches restrict the times dogs are allowed during the summer season, Bay View Beach allows dogs all day!  During the months of July and August, dogs must be leashed between the hours of 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM.  During the off-peak times, dogs are welcomed off-leash under their owner’s voice control.  Adjacent to Kinney Shores, both of these long sandy beaches offer tail wagging summer fun.

Lamoine Beach, Lamoine, ME: If you’re looking for a dog friendly beach away from the crowds of Acadia National Park, we recommend Lamoine Beach Park.  This small and rocky beach offers the calm waters of Frenchman Bay, and views of Bar Harbor and Mount Desert Island.  In addition, there is a small picnic area with grills making this a perfect spot to spend the day with your dog.  Dogs are allowed all day on-leash.  Please Note: Lamoine Beach Park is different than Lamoine State Park, located on the same road.

Stage Fort Park, Gloucester, MA: Enjoy refreshing sea breezes while exploring the trails and dog park at Stage Fort Park.  Trails range from easy to difficult, with scenic strolls along the shoreline to large boulders to climb with beautiful views of the harbor.  Dogs are allowed all day on-leash.  Please note though, that dogs are NOT allowed on the beaches during summer season.  However, there is plenty to do here for pups, without playing on the beaches.

Mt. Kearsarge, Warner, NH: Accessible by two state parks, it is our family’s tradition to spend the day at Rollins State Park.  There you will find a moderate to difficult hike with breathtaking summit views.  For less of an adventure but with great views, follow the short trail up from the parking lot to the picnic area known as “The Garden.”  Dogs are allowed all day on-leash.

Mount Agamenticus, York, ME: Consisting of over 10,000 acres and 40 miles of trails, Mount Agamenticus offers endless opportunities for dog friendly hiking.  From the summit picnic area there are views of the Isles of Shoals, Casco Bay, and the Presidential Range, including Mount Washington.  Dogs are allowed all day on-leash.

Dog Mountain, St. Johnsbury, VT: Dog Mountain is the ultimate place to spend the day with your pup.  Consisting of 150 acres complete with mountain top trails, pond, and fields, dogs are allowed all day off-leash.  So pack a picnic, bring your lawn chairs and tennis balls, and prepare for a tail wagging adventure.
